Nowadays, staying safe online has become a never-ending battle – for children as well as adults. Because cybercriminals are becoming smarter and more sophisticated in their operations, they are real threats to your personal security and privacy. Your money, your computer, your family, and your business are all at risk.

However, with a little common sense and some knowledge about what to do and not do, one can surf the ‘net unscathed. Here is a great set of rules for kids while they are online. I found these rules at safekids.com. Parents, Employers, and Managers, you can take some notes from these rules, too:

1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents’ permission.

2. I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.

3. I will never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my mother or father along.

4. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents.

5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the service provider.

6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.

7. I will not give out my Internet password to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.

8. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or jeopardize my family’s privacy

9. I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

10. I will help my parents understand how to have fun and learn things online and teach them things about the Internet, computers and other technology.

Although you may follow the rules religiously, you, your computer, and your family might still be at risk because cybercriminals leave you with three choices:

1. Do nothing and hope their attacks, risks, and threats don’t occur on your computer.

2. Do research and get training to protect yourself, your family, and your business.

3. Get professional help to lockdown your system from all their attacks, risks, and threats.

Remember: When you say “No!” to hackers and spyware, everyone wins! When you don’t, we all lose!

learning toys for kids
Jill Brennan asked:

The experts all agree that children learn by exploring the world around them and one way that they do this is through the creativeness of play. If you’ve watched any young children at play then you’ll know that they don’t necessarily need childrens toys to interact with to learn. The most obscure object can become a source of entertainment and amusement. However, childrens toys act as stimulants encouraging your child to discover and develop new skills and have new experiences. It makes sense then to focus on toys that help your child learn in a constructive way. But how do you decide which children’s educational toys are best for your child?

The kind of stimulating educational toys that your little one will respond to best are those that allow him or her to discover and encourage their own personal learning style. Some children like to concentrate on one activity and explore all they can around that while others like to have a wide variety of choices so that they can easily move from one to another. For example, a child that likes to concentrate for long periods will probably enjoy a complicated puzzle (appropriate to their age) but a child who gets distracted easily would probably learn more with a range of simpler puzzles that get increasingly difficult.

Have you ever stopped to think about how you like to learn? Each of us has a favorite way of discovering new things. If you take a book of fiction for example, you would find that some people prefer audio books because they can more easily take in information aurally, while others need to have a book in their hands to be able to assimilate the words. Others would rather watch a play or movie of the book than read it. And others would prefer to plot out what happened in a logical way through a mind map or linear drawing rather than trudge through the detail of what occurred. While children are still developing, their educational styles change depending on their skill level, however, most have a preference for a particular way of learning.

If you can’t quite work out whether your child responds best to visual, aural, touch or logical styles of education then the best thing to do is take time to observe how they interact with the learning toys around them. Do you have to ask them repeatedly to do things or do they pick it up faster if you write it down or if you show them first exactly what to do? Or perhaps they need to know what will happen if they don’t do something before they will do it?

Once you understand what they like you can introduce a few learning toys that are focussed on that particular mode of learning. And then see how they react. Do they embrace it? Do they struggle? Once you have tested a few different childrens learning toys you will then have a much better idea of what works for your child and what doesn’t. The next step is to hunt out the kind of educational toys your child has shown a preference for. However, it is important to bear in mind that your child’s educational style is not locked in and may alter as their skills develop and their interests change.

how to make kids smarter
Adam Johnes asked:

Whether for entertainment or utility, people increasingly use mobile technology to stay connected while they travel. The wide range of affordable high-tech products can also make family vacations all the more enjoyable.

Instead of overloading the car with Lego bricks and coloring books, many parents are taking along all-in-one gadgets, such as smartphones, to keep children entertained. Kids stay busy surfing the Web, playing games and snapping photos. Smartphones, such as the Palm Treo smartphone, combine a mobile phone, Internet access, e-mail, organizer, games and more into one compact device. And, for those who want to maximize battery life, a separate Treo TripKit conveniently stows a car charger, extra battery and more in one neat traveling pouch.

Not only can parents avoid overpacking the car with a DVD player, laptop and other unnecessary luggage, but these all-in-one devices can help keep the whole family happy. Parents can use smartphones to:

1. Track expenses for gas, food and last-minute supplies.

2. Let children snap photos of interesting roadside landmarks with the built-in camera.

3. Replace crumpled maps and avoid getting lost with a portable GPS device accessory, such as the Palm GPS Navigator.

4. Sing along to the family’s favorite songs downloaded on the smartphone’s MP3 player.

5. Instantly e-mail vacation photos to friends and family.

6. Edit last-minute Word or Excel documents for work.

7. Organize a Tic-Tac-Toe contest for the kids using the digital note pad.

8. Find the nearest gas station, restaurant or motel using Palm’s GPS Navigator database containing more than 4.5 million landmarks.

9. Keep children entertained with their favorite TV show using applications such as MobiTV (sold separately).

10. Download and read an eBook to help pass the time.

The latest, smartest, all-in-one phones may soon become a favorite vacation accessory for on-the-go families.

Neil Bush has come up with a robot teaching tool that has teachers in a number of States shocked that they can’t get normal school supplies but they’re being forced to purchase the expensive computer for tens of thousands of dollars. Some teachers who’ve tested it say the device is useless. They insist that teacher interaction is better. But Neil’s company has sucessfully pushed 1700 machines on school heads so far.

You can’t even get basics like paper and scissors, and we went
out and bought them. I just see red, one teacher said. Sources familiar with the Bush program said pressure to buy Bush’s toy- like device comes from influential Republicans who orchestrated initial funding from huge foreign donations, i.e. Saudia Arabia and Russia.

Some school administrators aren’t afraid to speak up. I wouldn’t advise anyone else to use it, said Supt. Paul Vranish.

Toys And Babies

The mind’s eye can never really picture a baby without a toy. Babies respond instinctively to their surroundings and toys become important as they stimulate the baby’s brain, thereby arousing interest and inquisitiveness. Moreover, the young age is when an individual learns the most and also the fastest. Everything around a baby is new to him/ her and yet within a few months, they grow an inherent awareness that helps them distinguish between objects, touches, sounds and colors. Therefore it is essential that kids be provided with the right kind of toys that will aid their learning processes.

In infancy, babies have a blurred vision, and cannot focus clearly on things at a distance. So their first memories are invariably associated with color. Red, white and black are among the first colors they can observe and distinguish between. An infant should therefore be given a lot of soft toys in bright colors. Rattles, wind chimes, cot toys, or brightly colored mobiles are also exciting for a kid as the noise and shape attracts them and engages their curiosity.

At a slightly older age, educational toys like wooden blocks of various colors and shapes teach children about colors, shapes and sizes. These toys teach a child interactive and interpretive skills at a very basic level. Cognitive skills also start getting developed when variations of these toys are given, for example, when a child has to sort the blocks according to color, or drop them in boxes depending on the size or shape.

Games like puzzles, jigsaws, beads, construction toys help promote the reasoning and analytical abilities in a child. Books with alphabets, numericals, or pictures are also great learning toys for children. They can observe the different objects in nature and relate them to the information in the books. This is probably one of the fastest learning processes in a child. Often there are books which allow a child to listen to the sounds made by animals, or even get a feel of their furs and hence distinguish one from the other.

Different furniture around the room can also be a learning toy for the child. For example, a baby will quickly observe and learn that meals are to be had at the dining table, while the sofas are places where one lounges. Similarly, the bath tub is a fascinating place for a toddler as he/ she subconsciously reacts to the interplay between the body and the water, and the ripples caused by the movements.

Child psychologists and researchers have established the deep connection between the child’s overall development and the learning toys and there is a constant effort to create unique learning toys that will enhance and nurture the development in babies.

learning games for kids
Kenneth Scott asked:

How often have you looked back and thought that much of what you studied in school has proved to be irrelevant. If you can think like this and agree to this statement, imagine what you children go through when they go through boring lesson after lesson, doing homework and studying while not understanding the actual reason why they are being subjected to such boring information.

The fact is that unless a task has relevance for us, it looses its importance. Many kids crib about how boring mathematics is or how difficult and irrelevant science seems to them.

It is up to the parents and teachers to make these learning a fun activity with a meaning so that the kids can appreciate why they are learning certain things. Experiments, real life examples and expedition can bring alive the information in text books.

Today there are many companies with presence on the website that provide helpful learning tools guised as games to make learning a fun-filled activity. You may have seen that younger kids **** reading and it is impossible to find a magazine or book that will interest them. But hand them over a video game and they will be busy for hours together.

Even as video games per se have no informational content, there are many reading tools that come in the format of a video game, endearing itself to the child in the first instance. Role playing is one such category of games that can be adapted to video games and as the child goes through the instructions in the games and moves from level to level, the reading skills are honed. Depending on the role that is being played the child can learn maths skills by buying items in a virtual store, selling and managing a business and much more.

They can also acquire better reasoning skills by working their way through various obstacles and reaching their goals. There are also some games that enable the children to understand what they study in school better. These learning games have options that you can choose from and include demonstrations of the experiments that they have done in school, the option of running and managing a theme park, learning how to conceptualize and build things and more.

There are also options of board learning games that can be played with the family. These prove to be a nice way in which your child can learn while spending time with you.

The best part is that kids do not realize that they are learning skills that they need to acquire while playing thee games. It is the best situation where they get to play a game while you can ensure that they are learning and acquiring the skills that they are supposed to.
