That’s because they are still objects to him and not representative of what you as an adult know to be a car ! I’d think that showing him ‘how to play with them would be encumbent on him understanding what a car is and that will come soon actually ! You’ll have a room full of Tonka toys….trust me …when he puts it all together and draws a comparison !
One Dad to another….right now he’s pushing a shiny bauble around that just happens to have little tiny wheels on it…..his fascination is the sound it makes when he smashes two together !
Remember this…once they are turn 16 and get their driver’s license you never see them again anyway …*LOL*…so enjoy his different stages now and guide him through them just like you are doing now !
Put a toy boat in his bath and watch him stick it in his mouth…and not pretend he is a pirate or a part of the Spanish Armada…watch ! *S*
My respect Sir…..and hope that helps a little ! *S*
My son is 17 months old and plays with them like they are cars (with wheels down). He even makes the ‘vroom’ noises. I think he started rolling them around 2 or 3 months ago, but just recently started imitating the sounds.
well, i wouldn’t get caught up with him playing with a toy the right way. at 13 months, he just doesn’t probably make the connection.
most 13 month olds are learning by toching, feeling, and mouthing objects.
better motor skills for building, and playing ‘the right way’ come in around 2.
my son is 3 1/2, he’s always been a mover and on the go. around 3, he finally began to appreciate and play with his thomas trains and car sets more.
My son has been playing with cars properly since a little after he started to crawl, so about 11 months.
My son is 28 months old, and playing with cars is his favorite thing to do. He really started playing with them at about 18 months.
Have fun ![]()
