Benefits of Music Education Shown to Include Leadership and Teamwork Skills Besides being a sure way to become the life of the party, learning to play an instrument can make your children smarter, better adjusted, and better equipped to adopt a position of leadership in a diverse world. Some of the benefits of music education include the development of leadership and teamwork skills. The idea that music education makes children smarter isn’t just our opinion. Music has a mathematical precision; the rhythms, pitches, and motifs in musical composition can all be expressed with numbers and equations. Maybe that is why the 1993 Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) showed above-average scores in both mathematical and verbal portions of the test by high school students who studied music. At the time, President Bill Clinton and Education Secretary Richard Riley were calling for enriched arts education for all children. Being smart is important, but it’s also critical that children be well adjusted. Children with music education — especially those in a school setting with other musicians — develop the key people-skills that are essential to functioning in society, including teamwork, problem solving, and leadership. They gain from the hard work of music mastery, learning self-discipline and self-worth through accomplishments. Studies demonstrate that the students most likely to be elected to class office, achieve the highest grades, or receive honors for academic achievement are the students who — you guessed it — study music. There is also an impossible to quantify, yet essential quality that music adds to each of our lives. If, as argued by the Oxford Review of Education as far back as 1996, the richness of music is itself enough justification for the teaching of it , then are music’s other benefits unimportant? We do not believe so. Music education should and does have measurable benefits. What we know is that music education helps children improve academic skills, develop leadership skills, and gain a sense of accomplishment. We also know that support for music education in public schools is always under financial pressure. You may have to resort to private or virtual lessons to help your children learn music. Be involved, pay attention, and behave as if your children’s music education is as important as math and writing education. Why? Because it is. But if that doesn’t convince your son or daughter to study music, perhaps the fact that musicians are the life of the party will! Guitar players and singers and pianists are always in demand, no matter what the venue; whether in church musical groups or jazz combos or contemporary rock groups, with bass players and drummers close behind. With the current decline in support for music and arts education, it is more important than ever for parents to encourage their children to study music.

kids learning games?
I have two boys 4 and 6 yrs old would like to get them something that they can have fun with but first and formost helps them with their learning. I want my 4 yr old to get a headstart and get him prepared when he starts pre-k next year. And my 6 yr old now in the 1st grade could use some extra help. I know there is lots of stuff out there like these leapster, v-tech, that hook up to your tv, handheld and and and but it’s not so easy to choose which one to get. Does anyone own any of this learning games? What would you suggest? It should be kid resistant if you know what I mean cause I read that lots of these games work with cards and such that are very easy torn and just plain simple distroyed. I want something that works and if possible lasts more than just a month or so

There are three different types of learners, according to child development experts. There are Visual Learners who use their eyes to learn, and are dubbed, the “lookers”; Auditory Learners use ears, and are the “listeners”, moving and touching form the learning mode for Kinesthetic Learners; they are the “movers”. Though everybody uses all these faculties, one of the styles is likely to dominate.

The process of discovery is encouraged by the right toys. They bring joy, and raise your child’s self-esteem. The positive learning environment thus created contributes to your child’s growth.

Simple actions suffice to teach children what their own body can do. Refined and coordinated movements follow. During the growth of the child the complex body movements lead to the use of their bodies during play. This is also known as gross motor skills. Building, pulling, stacking, and throwing are the areas encouraged by toys when they enter the developmental area.

Playing is a process of learning, for children. Choose toys relevant to the growth level of your child. This will boost the growth in many key areas, physical, emotional, social, language, intellectual and creativity.

Mattel introduced Hot Wheels in 1968. This was a brand of die-cast toy car. The Matchbox brand was acquired by Mattel from Tyco, in 1996. HotWheel Race Track models are portable, light and made of plastic. These models are aimed at reaching out to preschoolers but even younger kids can play with them. They don’t need assembling, and are safe.

Free-rolling wheels are a characteristic of Hot Wheels Race Track. This implies that the tiny cars on this track roll farther than other cars available, currently. A orange plastic track is placed to make loops and jumps, and these cars are designed to run on this track. The thrusting power is gravity, the starting point of a course has simply to be attached by the child to a table or chair via an included C clamp. A two-lane starting gate is available, allowing two lengths of track to be set up for racing. Later sets have both the starting gate and a finishing flag.

Hot Wheels Race Track toy varieties available in the market include Hot Wheels Starter Set Track Set, 4-LANE RACEWAY, and Turbo Glo Turbo Tunnel Track Set. These toys develop hand-eye coordination and physical skills. They develop creativity as these toys come with enough scope for experimentation.

The Hot Wheels Race Track price starts from $19.99, and is reasonably priced. Battery life is also reasonably long.

Hot Wheels Race Track is modifiable, and includes a motorized track-set for starters that allows kids to make their Hot Wheels perform multiple stunts. The two possible track set-ups enable children to control the action. It comes with one Hot Wheels vehicle, two figures and two cones and an overhead sign. But it isn’t designed for use with some Hot Wheels vehicles. Some models come unassembled. The colors and decorations may vary. It normally requires 2 “D” Batteries, which are not included.

All in all, Hot Wheels Race Track has proved to be a favorite with kids and parents alike, for its learning-cum-fun quality.

Donald Yates asked:

The power for success is – where?

“Don, can I find success in prophets writings or guru declarations?”

“Well Jon, Let’s face it; anyone, even God himself, can offer a formula for success. No matter if it has freed thousands, in all guarantees made, what would it be worth without your participation. That’s right, the main ingredient in any success formula is you. The burden is placed directly on you. Maybe you don’t want to hear that, but, like it or not, it is you who makes success happen and brings God’s promises into an experience.

“Bring God’s promises into an experience, what can that mean? Can you invoke God’s power for your benefit?”

“You better believe you can! All the power of the Universe is at your disposal.”

“Wow, wait a minute, that can’t be, God doesn’t allow man to create . . . does he?”

“The fact is, man was created in God’s own image and likeness, man is a creative being. Your quest for success is not done blindly for it is in faith that you forge ahead. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

“Wait a minute, If that’s true, why can’t I create my own environment?”

“You’ve clearly ignored the truth up tell now what makes you think you can handle the truth?” The truth is, you can, by simply using God’s laws.”

“How about success?”

Success is only a state of mind. What is success for one person may be failure to another, so success is what you believe it to be.”

“But Don, I have worked hard and God has not supplied me anything up to now. My family has lost faith in me, and even my church friends don’t seem to care”

“Jon, another eye-opening fact is, no one, not even God will make it happen for you and quite frankly no one on earth cares if you make or not. Look around, in most instances, people want to see you fail. Friends, family, associates, don’t want to see you doing better than them, I’m sorry to say, sad but true.”

“What can I put my trust in?”

“All events that affect you are actually controlled by you in other words, nothing is going to happen in your life without you accepting and allowing it happen. If you have a tyrant boss, don’t accept his/her conditions, find another job. One guarantee I can make, you won’t be successful if you don’t do any thing different than you did yesterday. If you accept the face of success, you are accepting God’s personal promise for your future. When all is said and done, success comes at a steep price, one you must pay to reap its benefits.”

Do you make or break – yourself?

As you can see, Jon is in a quandary, be believes everyone has let him down and success is beyond his reach.

A startling fact is, in God’s creation nothing moves forward without some effort being made by the participant. Sometimes the effort is tremendous and almost beyond measure, sometimes it is small and accomplished with little sweat. Anytime a person toils and sews the seeds of success a harvest time will follow. It’s a matter of how much effort he/she is willing to expend as to how much bounty his/her harvest will be. This is no earth shaking revelation, everyone knows success is self made, or do they?

Make no mistake, God’s laws know no boundaries, they are the same for everyone, believers and non-believers alike. Don’t be so naive as to believe that just because you are a Christian, God’s laws are proprietary to you; they are not. God’s laws encompass the whole of mankind equally; they are cause and effect or the action in choice. There can be no beginning without an ending. It’s a matter of the course taken between the beginning and the ending that determines success.

Regrettably, statistics disclose most of the world’s greatest self-help and how-to publications published over the years are never read by most purchasers and the material contained within is in no way put into practice. So all the writing in the world is of no use if it is presented to the blind.

The greatest majority of people simply can not grasp the truths of success or self-disciplined themselves to implement or even partially learn the best of laid out instructional concepts. It is sad that the many efforts of learned people who toiled diligently to present success manuals go unheeded while most people can’t lend themselves to put them into practice in their lives. This is the very reason universities and colleges are so valuable and are able to charge so much; they prepare undisciplined people in how to arouse the inner self. They also teach people how to focus on the task at hand. I can’t stress enough, if you can not discipline yourself in this effort you too will fall to uncertainty and ultimately disappointment. What most people never learn is that to become great at anything, you must become single minded and task directed.

First law of success, “the force needed to move an object is in direct proportion to its resistance”.

Sound like a riddle? No, it simply means, “the harder you work the more you get.” But wait, there’s another rule that says, “work smarter not harder” which also applies. Also, “necessity is the mother of invention”. Man is the only creature within God’s creation that has the capacity to take an idea from conception to creation. Why? Because in conception lies possibilities in discovery and truth which is a God inherited trait. What is the Universe but a possibility, idea, conception taken to its highest limits?

Even though God provides abundance, it is still a test of your intent and willingness. Do you have the strength to complete the mission? What is success but a test of endurance, desire, and commitment? When courted success is an elusive mistress who always resist capture and when not minded, will seek a more apt suitor.

The fact is, the concept of personal accomplishment, and financial success may seem worthy but without a clearly defined plan of action, they are little more than pipe dreams that come and go in the mind and may never be realized. Concepts must be visualized in your mind first before they will become a reality, then they can become strategies of success. Success is closer than you think.

Happy Trails

learning toys for kids
Ian asked:

I can’t find the answer online. So, at what age do most kids/did your kid learn to play with cars the ‘right’ way? By the ‘right’ way I mean moving them across the floor with the wheels down, as opposed to just carrying them around, banging them together, mouthing them, spinning the wheels, etc. My son is almost 13 months and will do anything with his toy cars but roll them over the floor. I’ve demonstrated how to play with cars but he doesn’t get it yet.
