how to make kids smarter
Bill Parsons asked:

Yes, folks, that’s right, playing basketball can actually make your kids smarter. No need for long study sessions, expensive tutors or academic camps. Just send them out to the court and worry no more.

When they play basketball, kids learn teamwork. They learn to collaborate on a goal, and how to play their part. This makes them smarter. They will then be able to go to school and organize a cooperative group that will come up with the best Native American project that ever was. Knowing how to work together, able to appreciate the aspects of give and take that is present on the basketball court allows them to work well with the other kids in their classes.

Playing basketball improves a kid’s hand-eye coordination. This in turn stimulates the brain, causing it to work harder and to thus work better. Improved skills of any kind lead to greater brain power, and thus your child will be smarter.

Being able to assess what’s going on around him or her on the court will help them make similar judgments in life. Paying attention to the other guy and knowing how to respond is another skill that, once mastered, will make your child smarter. If they can compare themselves to others, to analyze what the other kids are doing and to improve on that in their own lives, your kids will be smarter. They’ll be savvy and more able to think on their feet.

No kid likes to be told what to do, but a kid who can listen to a coach’s guidance will be more able to learn from others. Hearing what the coach has to say and being able to follow his or her suggestions makes your kids more open to constructive criticism, a must if one is to improve oneself. Being able to learn from the guidance of someone else is a huge benefit. This really helps a kid get smarter - they’re more willing to learn from someone else like a teacher, parent, or even older sibling.

Practicing the sport of basketball, if applied to other aspects of your child’s life can help make them smarter as well. Not having a problem with practicing on the court will most mean that they’ll be more amenable to practicing other things like piano lessons or spelling words. While no one likes to practice all the time, smart people know that it’s the only way to improve. We can’t all be experts the first time we try something, and learning this while on the court makes our kids smarter. Eventually they’ll figure out that they have to practice in other areas of their lives in order to improve and succeed.

In short, playing basketball can make your kid smarter. Practice, listening to the coach, paying attention to what others are doing, and playing on a team will help your kid increase his or her brain power. It’s a given.

Sanjay Agrawal asked:

Background

In the past few decades, with the advent of the computers, scientists have turned towards exploring how the power of the ubiquitous desktop can be harnessed to understand how the human psyche works. Every human being possesses enormous potential; it is only a question of tapping into one’s energies, eliminating all that is preventing these energies from coming to the surface, and letting the potential blossom. One technique that has emerged as a result of this exploration exploits the fact that users have a high amount of concentration when they are focused on the computer screen. By flashing positive messages and imagery on the screen unobtrusively and for the flash of a second, this technique bypasses the defense barricades of the conscious and seeks to reach out to the ever accepting subconscious. This article looks at how powerful software is clubbing research on psychoanalysis with computer technology to reprogram your mind for the better.

Self-limiting beliefs, self-defeating emotions

Man has, since the dawn of time, wondered about the structure and the power of the subconscious, or technically, the unconscious mind. It is known that a human being is basically driven by primeval urges and emotions that are hidden deep in their psyche; and that all their actions have a root and a link to these core elements. Tapping into the psyche to examine these urges and emotions, and further, eliminating and letting go of those emotions that are not beneficial, is the subject of much research in psychoanalysis.

Right from the moment the zygote forms as a result of unison of male and female gametes in the mother’s womb, an impression of the world around it begins to be created in its unconscious mind. These impressions are created through the thoughts that the mother thinks during both her waking as well as sleeping hours. Besides food and oxygen that seeps through the placenta, the embryo also assimilates the entire baggage of emotions that the mother carries in her psyche. Like a sponge, each and every crest and trough of thought, every single nuance of feeling, and the slightest inflexion of emotion that her mother experiences, gets absorbed in its passive mental firmament.

The moment the child emerges from the womb to take its first breath of fresh air, it begins to be bombarded with teachings and suggestions and commands from the people in its life. Not all of these teachings and suggestions and commands are hundred percent positive. Individuals - parents included - sharing the responsibility of rearing the child have their own skewed perspective of how the world is to be lived - and their beliefs and ideas and opinions and likes and dislikes get unconsciously projected onto the one personality that has the greatest capacity to assimilate them without any objection: the persona of the placid child lying peacefully in the cradle. Circumstances in the child’s life also reinforce these projections.

Unfortunately, while our conscious, wakeful alertness recognizes “good” thoughts versus not so good thoughts; the subconscious does not have this power of discrimination. It simply accepts and absorbs, sponge-like, anything and everything that comes its way. And, again unfortunately, it is the subconscious that drives our actions and therefore our destiny. It is the age-old principle in action: “What you think, so shall you become.”

The result? As you and I begin to grow up, along with height we also gain in beliefs that are self-limiting and emotions that are self-defeating. And as we lurch left and right towards our destinies, we keep wondering why things are not going on as well as we undoubtedly deserve them to be.

So, instead of beliefs such as: - I am a genius - I can create anything I want - I can solve anything - I know I am a genius - I understand everything - I can learn anything - I am intelligent and improving! - My intelligence is vast - I can solve anything with ease - My intellect is limitless

… we tend to harbor the following beliefs: - I am a bumbling nincompoop - Whatever I try to do, doesn’t work out - I cannot solve anything; solutions are beyond me - I know I am an average mediocrity - I am unable to understand everything / anything - I am incapable of learning anything - I am not intelligent and going downhill every passing day! - My intelligence is limited - I cannot solve anything with ease - My intellect has limitations

… and these beliefs become our reality.

Rising from the morass

The moment when you become aware that you are actually wallowing in the morass of these self-limiting beliefs and emotions, is, in my opinion, a crucial moment of your life. This moment may come at any stage - early childhood, late adolescence, or in your golden years. When this perception about what and how you have been thinking all along crosses your mind, there is no flash of lightening around you, there are no thunderclaps, and no halo formation over your head. It is just an “aha” kind of feeling, accompanied with a certain lightness that you experience when you unburden a great weight from your shoulders.

Even more crucial now is to not let this awareness go. It is very much essential to hold on to it. You require a “divine” guide that walks by your side at all times, constantly reminding you of the new thought patterns that you need to think henceforth. Alas, the human population being what it is now, such guides are in perpetual short supply.

Enter, the New Age Guide

The concept of subliminal messaging is a brilliant marriage between psychoanalysis and computer technology. The offspring of this consummation is software that acts as the “divine” guide, albeit in a virtual form. Since most of the waking hours are now spent staring at the computer screen, this is where the New Age, high-tech guide places itself.

The principle behind subliminal messaging is simple: “what you think, so shall you become”. And this principle is implemented very efficiently by directing the messages to that aspect of your mind that matters the most: your subconscious. You see, in your waking hours, you automatically and cynically raise your defenses, and selectively filter the thoughts that come to you. This selective filtering also unfortunately blocks positive, self-affirmative thoughts from edging their way in. On the other hand, the subconscious mind does not have any of its own defenses; it is simply there, accepting and absorbing whatever comes its way.

But when you consciously click on a software that you know is good for you, and then shift your attention to the work at hand on your computer; you set in motion the process of self-affirmative messages reaching out to your subconscious. The software begins beaming out the upbeat messages that are already present in its database. In some software flavors, you yourself have the choice to select the messages that you want, or you can create altogether new set of messages that are relevant to your particular life circumstance. These messages show up imperceptibly on the screen for a fraction of a second, often at random intervals, and fade away immediately. The speed with which this happens is so fast, that at the conscious level, your brain does not even comprehend that it is happening.

But, unbeknown to your conscious mind, a pathway is created between your faculty of vision and your subconscious, which automatically conduits the messages right up to the doorstep of the subconscious. And, very willingly, as always, the subconscious laps it up. (This concept of a pathway is nothing new; it is a well-observed fact of life.) Over a period of time, the self-affirmative thoughts dominate the earlier, negative and self-defeating thought patterns, till a stage comes when you are left only with positive thought patterns. And it is these new thought patterns that begin to guide you towards your new destiny.

The best feature of such softwares is their unobtrusiveness. We increasingly spend a major part of our waking hours staring at the computer screen; and our concentration is at its maximum as we go about clicking and surfing and entering & retrieving information. By working silently in the background, these softwares achieve in a very short time what other techniques of self-development take so long to achieve.

Nirvana, at last

As a self-development enthusiast, I have worked on quite a few products in the market that offer nirvana to the seeker of mind power improvement. While each of these products has its own set of pros and cons, the bunch of softwares that generate subliminal messaging take the cake. If you are keen upon removing the kinks in your mental makeup that are preventing you from achieving success in life, it behooves you at least to try them out.

One of them is sure to become your New Age Guide to Nirvana.

Forms of Domestic Violence and Development of

Women through Education

INTRODUCTION

However much a mother may love her children, it is all but impossible for her to provide high-quality child care if she herself is poor and oppressed, illiterate and uninformed, anemic and unhealthy, has five or six other children, lives in a slum or shanty, has neither clean water nor safe sanitation, and if she is without the necessary support either from health services, or from her society, or from the father of her childen.

                                                          - Vulimiri Ramalingaswami, “The Asian Enigma”

Women constitute almost half of the population in the world. But the hegemonic masculine ideology made them suffer a lot as they were denied equal opportunities in different parts of the world. The rise of feminist ideas has, however, led to the tremendous improvement of women’s condition through out the world in recent times. Access to education has been one of the most pressing demands of theses women’s rights movements. Women’s education in India has also been a major preoccupation of both the government and civil society as educated women can play a very important role in the development of the country.

·                     India has world’s largest number of professionally qualified women.

·                     India has largest population of working women in the world.

·                     India has more number of doctors, surgeons, scientists, professors than the US.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is controlling behaviour and includes all kinds of physical, sexual, economic, psychological and emotional abuse within all kinds of intimate relationships. The perpetrators of domestic violence or abuse are usually men and the victims or survivors are usually women and children that they know. It includes:

• Punching and slapping.

• Kicking and hair pulling.

• Biting and pinching.

• Pushing and shoving.

• Being forced to have ***.

• Being beaten or cut with other objects.

• Disrespect, neglect and emotional blackmail.

• Verbal abuse and swearing.

• Being prevented from going out or seeing people – being isolated.

FORMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The following are the forms of Domestic Violence:

1.      Physical Abuse

2.      Sexual Abuse

3.      Psychological Abuse

4.      Emotional Abuse

5.      Financial Abuse

1. Psysical Abuse:

Physical abuse is the most visible form of abuse and most likely (with sexual abuse) to give rise to criminal charges. Injuries include black eyes, cut lips, bruising, fractures, deafness, blindness, internal bleeding, missing teeth, persistent ill health, miscarriages, and injuries to a foetus and death. Injury sites are often concealed by clothing or hair. It can include slaps, shoves, pushing, being thrown across the room or down the stairs, kicking, stamping, strangulation, burns and scalds, being attacked with weapons such as knives, household objects, firearms etc internally as well as externally.

2. Sexual Abuse:

Sexual Abuse in an abusive relationship is another form of violence, control and degradation. It includes rape, sexual assaults (including with implements),enforced prostitution, enforced sexual practices including being forced to watch or engage in pornography.

3. Psychological Abuse:

Psychological abuse examples include “Jeckyll and Hyde” behaviour, preventing contact with friends and families, constant belittling and humiliating things being said, claims that children will be removed if anyone is told of abuse, controlling behaviours, deliberately enforcing dependency, constant statements that the victim is mentally ill etc.

4. Emotional Abuse:

Emotional abuse is an attack on victims’ personality and well being and is often described as worse than physical violence. It may be referred to as “mind-games”. It frequently amounts to the abuser assuming a tight and unhealthy control of all members of the family, which may become increasingly isolated in the community.

Examples include threats of violence to all members of family, constant criticism of the victim saying she is ugly, ignorant or worthless, using the children as ammunition, family life and mood being dictated by abuser (abuser-centric) continual questioning, humiliation in public, playing on community and cultural fears, threats to have the children removed, threats to kill or have deported, threat that the abuser will commit suicide, threats and actual violence to family pets etc.

5. Financial Abuse:

Financial Abuse is essentially the deprivation of and / or the control of money whether earned or benefits.

An abuser may refuse to pay bills or prevent the victim from having any control over the family finances. The abuser may steal money belonging to the victim or children. Essential services such as gas and electricity may be cut off. The mother may be forced to support the children solely on what she can earn without assistance or child benefit if this is claimed by the abuser. An abuser may deliberately spend money on himself or sell the woman’s possessions and family furniture.

CRIME AGAINST WOMEN IN INDIA

·        One crime against women every three minutes

·        One **** every 29 minutes

·        One dowry death case every 77 minutes

·        One case of cruelty by husband and relatives every nine minutes

·        Once ******* every 4 hours

Source: National Crime Records Bureau

The main problems of Indian women:

·         Malnutrition: India has exceptionally high rates of child malnutrition, because tradition in India requires that women eat last and least throughout their lives, even when pregnant and lactating. Malnourished women give birth to malnourished children, perpetuating the cycle.

·         Poor Health: Females receive less health care than males. Many women die in childbirth of easily prevented complications. Working conditions and environmental pollution further impairs women’s health.

·         Lack of education: Families are far less likely to educate girls than boys, and far more likely to pull them out of school, either to help out at home or from fear of violence.

·         Overwork: Women work longer hours and their work is more arduous than men’s, yet their work is unrecognized. Men report that “women, like children, eat and do nothing.” Technological progress in agriculture has had a negative impact on women.

·         Unskilled: In women’s primary employment sector - agriculture - extension services overlook women.

·         Mistreatment: In recent years, there has been an alarming rise in atrocities against women in India, in terms of rapes, assaults and dowry-related murders. Fear of violence suppresses the aspirations of all women. Female infanticide and sex-selective abortions are additional forms of violence that reflect the devaluing of females in Indian society.

·         Powerlessness: While women are guaranteed equality under the constitution, legal protection has little effect in the face of prevailing patriarchal traditions. Women lack power to decide who they will marry, and are often married off as children. Legal loopholes are used to deny women inheritance rights.

India has a long history of activism for women’s welfare and rights, which has increasingly focused on women’s economic rights. A range of government programs have been launched to increase economic opportunity for women, although there appear to be no existing programs to address the cultural and traditional discrimination against women that leads to her abject conditions.

GOVERNEMNT ROLE TO MINIMIZE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN INDIA

Overall, a crime against women is committed every three minutes in India, according to India’s National Crime Records Bureau. Despite the scale of the problem, there had been no specific legislation to deal with actual abuse or the threat of abuse at home. Domestic violence, under the new law, includes “actual abuse or the threat of abuse whether physical, sexual, emotional or economic,” a statement from the federal ministry of women and child development said.

“We have been trying for long to protect women from domestic violence. In India alone, around 70% of women are victim of these violent acts in one or the other form,” junior minister for women and child development Renuka Chowdhury told the Press Trust of India news agency. They say a bill alone will not help in preventing domestic abuse; what is needed is a change in mind sets.

In January 1992, the National Commission for Women (NCW), was set up as a statutory body under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 ( Act No. 20 of 1990 of Govt.of India ) to review the constitutional and legal safeguards for women; recommend remedial legislative measures, facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women.

There are so many government and non-government organizations are working for the benefits of women. Both Central and State governments are continuing so many programmes for the development of women in the country.

 DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN THROUGH EDUCATION

You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women.

                                                                                                                 - Jawaharlal Nehru

Female Literacy in India:

According to last census held in 2001, the percentage of female literacy in the country is 54.16%. The literacy rate in the country has increased from 18.33% in 1951 to 65.38% as per 2001 census. The female literacy rate has also increased from 8.86% in 1951 to 54.16%. It is noticed that the female literacy rate during the period 1991-2001 increased by 14.87% whereas male literacy rate rose by 11.72%. Hence the female literacy rate actually increased by 3.15% more compared to male literacy rate.

Factors Responsible for Poor Female Literacy Rate:

Historically, a variety of factors have been found to be responsible for poor female literate rate, viz.

·         Gender based inequality.

·         Social discrimination and economic exploitation.

·         Occupation of girl child in domestic chores.

·         Low enrolment of girls in schools.

·         Low retention rate and high dropout rate.

The main strategies adopted by the Government for increasing female literacy in the country include:

1.      National Literacy Mission for imparting functional literacy

2.      Universalisation for Elementary Education

3.      Non-Formal Education

History of Women’s Education in India: Although in the Vedic period women had access to education in India, they had gradually lost this right. However, in the British period there was revival of interest in women’s education in India. During this period, various socio religious movements led by eminent persons like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar emphasized on women’s education in India. Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Periyar and Baba Saheb Ambedkar were leaders of the lower castes in India who took various initiatives to make education available to the women of India. However women’s education got a fillip after the country got independence in 1947 and the government has taken various measures to provide education to all Indian women. As a result women’s literacy rate has grown over the three decades and the growth of female literacy has in fact been higher than that of male literacy rate. While in 1971 only 22% of Indian women were literate, by the end of 2001 54.16% female were literate. The growth of female literacy rate is 14.87% as compared to 11.72 % of that of male literacy rate.

Importance of Women’s Education in India: Women’s education in India plays a very important role in the overall development of the country. It not only helps in the development of half of the human resources, but in improving the quality of life at home and outside. Educated women not only tend to promote education of their girl children, but also can provide better guidance to all their children. Moreover educated women can also help in the reduction of infant mortality rate and growth of the population.

Obstacles: Gender discrimination still persists in India and lot more needs to be done in the field of women’s education in India. The gap in the male-female literacy rate is just a simple indicator. While the male literary rate is more than 75% according to the 2001 census, the female literacy rate is just 54.16%. Prevailing prejudices, low enrollment of girl child in the schools, engagements of girl children in domestic works and high drop out rate are major obstacles in the path of making all Indian women educated.

According to the Women and Child Development study, 45 percent of Indian women are slapped, kicked or beaten by their husbands. India also had the highest rate of violence during pregnancy. Of the women reporting violence, 50 percent were kicked, beaten or hit when pregnant. About 74.8 percent of the women who reported violence have attempted to commit *******. It shows the importance of education. Educated woman has more strength and power to face the challenges when compared to uneducated woman.

Kumud Sharma of the Centre for Women’s Development Studies in New Delhi traced the correlation between education and domestic violence to patriarchal attitudes. “Educated women are aware of their rights,” she said. “They are no longer willing to follow commands blindly. When they ask questions, it causes conflicts, which, in turn, leads to violence. In many Indian states, working women are asked to hand over their paycheck to the husband and have no control over their finances. So, if they stop doing so or start asserting their right, there is bound to be friction.”

It is necessary to establish some more colleges and universities in India.  The number of Residential Schools for SC/ST and BC’s is not sufficient today. So, increase the number of these schools in the both rural and urban areas. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. Take care about future generation. Then only India will become developed country in the future.

CONCLUSIONS

Now we are living in the modern and technological world. Women are also entering in all the fields like men for doing job. Educated women have better opportunity compared to uneducated women in the society. They are facing so many problems in the society. With the help of education and law and order it is easy to escape from those problems. So it is necessary to educate all types of women in the society. Education gives strength, wealth, health and power to the individual.

 According to Swami Vivekandanda:

“We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind increased and intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet”.

The plight of women in medieval India and at the starting of modern India can be summed up in the words of great poet Rabindranath Tagore:

“O Lord Why has you not given woman the right to conquer her destiny?

Why does she have to wait head bowed,

By the roadside, Waiting with tired patience,

Hoping for a miracle in the morrow?”

Dr Robyn Silverman asked:

a trip with children? Traveling in a car, plane or train? You must be bringing a carry-on bag. What you may not realize is that this bag can be a lifeline for you when boredom strikes or an inevitable mess occurs. After all, you are confined to a small space with children for a number of hours. You need to be prepared.

So, what should you pack in your bag-o-sanity? After some research, I’ve found that the items fall into 7 categories: Food, Toys, Clothes, Necessities, Books, Cleaning agents, and other things that could only fit into a category unto itself “Genius Miscellaneous.”

1. Food: Leave the sugar at home. Granola bars, clementines, bananas, cheerios, animal crackers, juice and water are great choices. To lessen the sugar in drinks further, don’t be afraid to mis water with juice to dilute the potency. These foods are all easy to handle and drinks can be easy too if you remember to bring your child’s sippy cup.

2. Toys/Entertainment: Think compact. Toys should not take up that much room in your “bag o’ sanity.” Nesting cups, legos that snap together, children’s playing cards, small dolls with layers of clothes can occupy a child’s imagination for a significant portion of your trip. Even paper and crayons can go a very long way. 3. Clothes: Comfort is dependant upon being warm, clean and dry. Putting your child in his “feety” pajamas (if they don’t mind their feet being covered) before the trip can ensure a comfortable trip and may even encourage sleep along the way. An extra set of clothes can be a valuable asset because it can be used for extra layers for children who run cold and for a clean change of clothes when a spill occurs.

4. Necessities: All the comfort of home. Don’t forget to pack small packets of tissues, antiseptic hand gel, hand cream, band-aids, and Tylenol (for you and for your child). In addition, if you are used to using pacifiers with your child, make sure that you bring at least 2 or 3 on your trip in case one gets lost. Bring Zip-lock baggies or small trash bags for dirty clothes, dirty diapers or left over food.

5. Books: If your child is old enough, have him choose which book(s) he wants to bring. Books are a great way to keep a child calm and focused because it is an intimate and often “snuggly” activity. Books on tape can be a savior for parents who need to attend to more than one child at a time– at the very least it can buy you some time.

6. Cleaning agents: Oh, the magic of wet wipes. No parent should be without themespecially on a trip when you are confined with your child for hours at a time. There are bound to be spills, dirty faces, stained clothes, and filthy surfaces to wipe down. Of course, if you have a baby, I am sure you can think of some other uses.

7. Genius Miscellaneous: These are the magic creations of the most prepared parents. For parents who have a baby and need to heat up milk on a plane, just ask for a cup of hot water and place it in the thermos you remembered to bring. The bottle can easily be placed in the thermos and heat to the temperature that you desire. It is also advisable to pack bottles with disposable bags so that you do not need to worry about washing the bottle out during the trip. If your baby or toddler is in a carry car seat, you know that you must keep the handle down during travel. Pack some Velcro and hang a bunch of toys on the seat in front of the child and behind the child. You can even connect the toys from one seat to the next and make a make-shift mobile.

One last thing that can make all the difference; an extra set of hands. Grandparents can be an exceptional distraction for children and a godsend for parents who need a break. If you are a single parent or do not have the kind of parents you would like to include on your vacation, bring a friend. While this may mean “extra baggage” on your trip, when one child needs to go to the bathroom and the other one is in a deep sleep, an extra set of hands can be worth its weight in gold. After all, you deserve a vacation too!

Imagine The Parent Farm sounds funny I know, yet it would be nice to know that there is a place where parents can go to learn how to nurture and teach their children, how to become great adults. It is commonly said that there is no rule book or instruction manual on how to be a good parent, yet one can use this as an excuse, does it truly benefit your kids?

The excuses are a mile long from saying it is tougher today to bring up children than what it was 50 years ago, or nowadays it takes two incomes to provide for a family. It really is a cop out, as every generation has strived to improve on their own upbringing by giving more, this is human nature. We can label the difficulties or wrap them in different paper though at the end of the day the buck stops with you as the parent.

Go back 500 years and then compare living in the world today as a tough place, even the meek and lower socio economic live better today than anytime in history. For the majority of us we are living in the here and now, so why not make the most of what we have got. As parents today we instill the virtues and values of generations to come as have those that came before us.

It is easy to blame our parents for our current situation, though stop to think, they could do the same in blaming their parents. You have created your current position in life, as we all have choices. Being born into wealth does not guarantee continued wealth; equally being born into poverty does not mean you are destined to be poor. Today many self made millionaires have hit rock bottom as either being bankrupt or homeless, yet have gone onto great things.

So today if we choose to make a difference we are more inclined to, or you can choose to have a crappy day. By fine tuning your own positive outlook you can expect your children to emulate it? Our kids are simply sponges of our behaviors, our attitudes, our language and beliefs. Therefore decide at least for your children that you are going to be the role model that will impress upon them. One day your kids may thank you for it.

A common issue in the parent of today is the lack of attention that is given to their kids. Yes I understand the pressures of life and the responsibilities, yet how many kids misbehave or get into trouble? While it is only one scenario generally these children are vying for your attention. What do we do as adults when we feel like we are not being heard? We shout and get angry. Kids play up and do naughty things to get your attention. No different.

Can you remember your childhood? Do you remember how quickly it went before you became an adult? Therefore when your kids come to you and ask a question STOP and give them that moment in time, it may be that thing they remember for the rest of their life, that critical question. Do not fog them off.

I am not suggesting you have to be the perfect parent every hour of every day of the week, as none of us are perfect. I recommend you take the time to offer the guidance and inspiration that will make them that great adult. In other words be present for them. It is no good to say wait till I get a spare minute, as that moment in time may never be repeated again.

Being caught up in your work or your chores or even your own quiet time is never as important as when your child comes to you for advice; or when you can see that they need to be taught to do something correctly. As adults we do not always learn something the first time we are taught, it takes repetition before we get the learning. So be patient with your kids development, if it takes you three times or more to tell them not to draw on the wall, so be it. Allow the possibility that it may take that long for it to sink in.

Teach your children consequence; this can be done without imparting the wrath of god upon them. Some parents literally go into hysterics in scolding their kids, if only they thought about the impact that will have on their child as an adult? Imagine explaining to them why that behavior is not acceptable. Note how I said the behavior not the child as in their intellect or personality? By calmly explaining what could happen if they followed through on this, they soon will learn right from wrong.

So in closing you can either find that Parent Farm or you can stop, listen and teach your kids the important values in life, it will make them terrific adults. Or let them grow up as potential failures because you could not be bothered to give them the time? Life is short so being the best teacher you can to create a positive life that comes with offering love and happiness. Be present, listen intently to understand, and enjoy being a parent.

learning games for kids
Matthew Stanton asked:

Not everyone possesses the skill or even the inclination for mathematics. For a lot of people, numbers mean headache and trauma of the extreme kind. Math is especially traumatic if they involve equations. It is no wonder, then that a lot of students have a hard time learning mathematics, many flunk and others simply drop out.

Even though it is a source of a lot of grimaces and groans in our academic lives, we cannot deny the fact that this subject is useful in our daily activities. When we purchase, budget or shop, the basics of math is in use. But if the basics are the ones that are more profound in our daily activities, why then do we need to learn the more advanced ones in school? Perhaps because we can find a lot of career choices in the mastery of this subject. One instance is if we decide to take up banking. Before we could dwell on any of the advanced nature of mathematics, however, we first have to master the more basic ones.

Speaking of this subject matter, a lot of parents and teachers ponder on how to make it fun for kids. For how would they be able to learn anything about it if they are not interested with it? The challenge now is how to make learning this subject an engaging experience for kid.

A good way to make this happen is through math games. Kids should be able to feel that this subject is more like playing, so that they would be more interested to learn it. Many of the math games available nowadays are designed to enhance your kids logical thinking skills without taking the fun out of it. Parents can help their kids by playing with them through these math games. When kids are having fun, they tend to forget that they are actually trying to learn one of the most dreaded subjects on earth.

Math games also allows for interaction, as your kid will go through answering questions. With this, he will be able to know for himself how he fares with a particular topic in math. You would also be able to measure what area he is most good at and which area he is weaker at.

In a classroom, math games can be used to reinforce the lessons that are taught by a teacher. Instead of giving the typical test after a discussion, teachers can use math games to liven up a test as well as to see how much the students understood.

There is a variety of math games available, and you need to choose the one that you think your students would most enjoy working at. There are math games that contain their favorite cartoon characters and you might take into account if they will be more interested in answering something that is familiar to them.

Math need not seem boring nor perhaps scary. With math games, it can be a world of fun, even when you are only adding one plus one.
